Almost an Abstraction

/

This exhibition revolves around the abstract process in Luis Seoane’s work. It offers over 40 pieces from the foundation’s collection, including oil paintings, drawings, prints, watercolours, posters and a variety of documents. In the mid-1950s, under the influence of artists like Fernand Léger, Joaquín Torres-García or Pablo Picasso, Seoane temporarily set aside figurative art and opted instead for a more concise approach to painting. He started doing murals and became highly skilled in large-format projects in the first half of the decade, and he worked on printmaking. Both techniques made Seoane become more interested in the use and importance of colour in his work. He began producing two-dimensional paintings, where the colours defined the landscape and at the same time provided order to the composition. Case unha abstracción has three different parts: Line, Distortion, and Colour; each of them focusing on one of the different elements that define this period of his career. The exhibition includes some documents that show the presence of abstraction in Seoane’s editorial design work.
