After curating a big retrospective exhibition on Luis Seoane’s paintings for the Galician Centre of Contemporary Art, professor Valeriano Rozal is now taking on an analysis of his drawings and illustrations. The exhibition is a co-production by the Sociedad Estatal de Conmemoraciones Culturales and the Fundación Luis Seoane, and the collaboration of Fundación Caixa Galicia. It serves to commemorate the foundation’s tenth anniversary. Luis Seoane used his drawings to express his demand for social justice, his allegory and his irony; and they widened the range of his work and gave him the opportunity to apply what he learned through this process to other fields such as painting, publishing or graphic design. The pieces for this exhibition were carefully selected from nearly seven hundred works catalogued. The pieces done on paper make up the largest section of his body of work and he produced them consistently all through his career. The research needed to prepare this show –the first in a series of events to celebrate the tenth anniversary of this institution– will be the basis for a catalogue raisonné of Seoane’s work, which is one of the Foundation’s core projects.
