The exhibition Ray Harryhausen. Creador de monstruos (Ray Harryhausen. Maker of monsters) is part of a committed effort that the Fundación Luis Seoane is undertaking to do a historical and critical review of the movements and concepts that contributed to the definition of modern art from a cross-sectional approach. Ray Harryhausen is considered on of the best creators of visual effects in the history of cinema. His work was fresh and extremely enticing and is essential in order to know and enjoy adventure and fantasy films. Harryhausen was a multifaceted artist trained on fields as diverse as sculpture, drawing, photography or drama. His mark on the history of cinema is immense, so much so that he was actually not a film director, but a special effects technician; however, the majority of film enthusiasts and critics, when talking about pieces such as The 7th Voyage of Sinbad or Clash of the Titans, call them «Harryhausen films». This makes him, along with Georges Mèlies, one on the very few creators in his field to have made such a significant impact on film history. The artist, who was born in Los Angeles in 1920, was the main contributor to the development of stop-motion animation, which we still use today, and he is still being championed by Henry Selick and other important figures in the film industry.

Ray Harryhausen. Creador de monstruos (Ray Harryhausen. Maker of monsters) has been curated by Asier Mensuro and produced by the Fundación Luis Seoane and The Ray & Diana Harryhausen Foundation. The exhibition comprises almost 74 original drawings and 22 models, some previously unreleased animations, 50 photographs and posters. It is the largest exhibition about this artist to have taken place in Spain. It also has a section with documents about the connection between Harryhausen and Spanish cinema, including unreleased material from illustrators, creators and designers such as Gil Parrondo or Fernando González, who got to work with the American artist. Additionally, the Fundación Luis Seoane is preparing a series of screenings of his most relevant films, which will give visitors a new glimpse into the imagination of an artist that is still highly acclaimed by audiences and critics alike.
