Curators Manuel Segade

La construcción del espectador (The Construction of the Spectator) is a tour of the art styles of the last thirty years, which are represented here by sixteen pieces – sculpture, photography, painting, installations and video art– from the Fundació «la Caixa» collection created by eleven renowned international artists. The purpose of this project is to give a new perspective on the relationship between contemporary art and its audience, as an invitation to question how they approach the art object. In the words of Manuel Segade, curator of the exhibition, the goal is for «the spectator to stop wondering about the meaning of what they are seeing. Contemporary art does not exist without its audience». The exhibition is completed by a catalogue essay which includes an account by photographer Vari Caramés.
